Babad Lembana Edition 2022
4/5/2024
"Beri Aku Waktu" is a long project that is currently a space for exploration for me. This project builds on my exploration of Kolenjer by exploring leftover materials and ethical fashion as methods and perspectives. Kolenjer is a calendar or calendar system used by the Kanekes (Baduy) Indigenous people for generations. Kolenjer calculates important times, such as determining planting and harvest days, predicting good fortune, and so on.
I am initially interested in starting a design exploration of the remaining aspects of material culture (residues). I try to expand 'residue' beyond material aspects as a keyword for reading and responding to residual elements in fashion and design, especially in social and environmental dimensions.
In recent projects, I often collaborate with (former) textile workers and indigenous communities. It seeks to build a fashion infrastructure and superstructure where access to resources is not controlled by one particular person or group. Openness will enable mutual sharing and processing so that we don't get trapped in the fashion trend market mechanism, which is too product-oriented. Thus, this work was made using a combination of virgin material thread (black) and recycled denim waste thread (blue) using a knitting technique.
