LUSI PAKAN SUMBI: FAILURE DE COUTURE (2020)

27-29 November 2020

As a fashion designer in collaboration with Taufik Darwis as Director of textile Installation Performance Art,

LUSI PAKAN SUMBI: FAILURE DE COUTURE,

Lawangwangi Creative Space, Bandung

The LUSI PAKAN SUMBI: FAILURE DE COUTURE show concerns clothing as a covering for the human body, which moves from the Sangkuriang legend, as figures of the human body as power. Dayang Sumbi, as a figure who is resistant to the "logic" of men-humans as rulers of nature, trains herself to be detailed in weaving things that are limited, sufficient clothes.

This show tries to take a "story" and is framed to overcome the perspective of humans as rulers, that humans are only one of the variants of species on earth. The post-show exhibition also raised questions about the waste that was examined through anthropological research in the Cigondewah textile industry area in Bandung city. How does the textile business activity, from upstream to downstream, impact the social and ecological environment.

The question we asked both in the show and at the exhibition this time was: Is it through textiles that humans are increasingly dividing boundaries, or are they sharing. Can textiles be the driving force for creating "empty space" for all species, or can it emphasize the tremendous human body, with the human as the center.
