Remembering Remember 2021

TUBABA ART FEST 2021

 Remembering Remember 2021

As Costume Designer of “Remembering Remember” TUBABA ART FEST 2021, A dance ln project, I collaborated with Ayu Permata Sari (choreographer) and Nur Fadli Aufaris (filmmaker).

These costume designs were created from the exploration of a site-specific mood board; Las Sengoq, Tubaba. Las Sengoq is a new cultural site in Tubaba built based on various narratives about the quality of "openness" in a location with a history of transmigration. These costume designs rekindle memories of the most palpable experiences in Tubaba, namely diversity and flexibility. These keywords were used to select materials, colors, and techniques to create costumes that interact with the overall movement growing in the artistic process.

I used draping techniques to shape the costume designs, serving as a way to recall memories. Projection and reflection were used to play and create a choreographic structure of clothing that grows from fragments of memories, mostly from dancers who are residents of Tubaba, in revisiting Las Sengok.

Each fragment of memory is transformed into choreographic language, and I respond by creating costume forms that grow through the dancers' movements based on their memories; various gestures that unfold from the multi-colored dancers' costumes; resonances of sounds shifting between the fictitious and the natural; and empty spaces among the dancers captured by the camera.
